“The results from the new study suggest that if there is no benefit to Viagra, then there will be no advantage for Viagra in the treatment of ED,” said lead author Dr Janet Woodcock, an epidemiologist and a researcher with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s Sexual Medicine Unit.
The UK has already banned sildenafil citrate and tadalafil in some countries for the last six years.
Viagra has had to be discontinued in several countries since 2018, and the drug is still widely available on the Internet. The drug was not available in the United States, and its manufacturer, Pfizer, has not stopped marketing it as a treatment for impotence.
The drugs in the study were designed to treat the most common erectile dysfunction disorder. In the UK, sildenafil citrate was the medication used to treat erectile dysfunction and was not studied in the US. In other countries, similar drugs were also used, such as the Viagra pill and the Adcirca.
However, the drugs in the study are not recommended for use in children under the age of 18. The drugs are not approved for use in children under the age of 18 and do not appear to have any effect in young people.

These side effects mean people with pre-existing health conditions, such as heart and liver disease, cannot take oral ED pills. They are also not safe for people who have recently had a stroke, and cannot be taken with some prescription medicines.
Dr Hilary Jones, who regularly appears as a health expert on ITV, told: “The word ‘breakthrough’ is often used in health headlines, but new treatments which are truly groundbreaking come along far less frequently. Eroxon is an innovative therapy which has the potential to change the lives of millions of men with erectile dysfunction.”
Dr Catherine Hood, a sexual health specialist, added: “When they were launched back in the 90s, PDE5i medicines were a game-changer, but they are not an option for many men due to pre-existing health conditions, interactions with their prescription medicines or simply because of the time they take to work.”
In a 12-week clinical trial of 250 people, two out of three reported a significant improvement in their ability to achieve and maintain an erection. The figure rose to 80 per cent for those with severe erectile dysfuncion.
The gel is available over the counter, without a prescription. Eroxon costs £24.99 for a pack of four single-use tubes, and is available from Boots stores and online.

The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.
The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.
